Canooing at Halsjøen

Kompasset, Finnskogen Nord
Haldammen 4H

Easily Accessible hike close to Oslo
Halsjøen is beautifully situated near the Swedish border in the heart of northern Finnskogen. The area offers two excellent starting points for canoe trips, both accessible by car with good parking facilities.

On the western side of Halsjøen, you'll find Kompasset and Langneset — featuring a sandy beach and overnight stays in wooden lavvus, along with opportunities for camping.

At the southern end of the lake lies Haldammen, where the Flisa River begins. This site has been active since the late 1600s, when the first waterwheel and mill were built. The original dam was completed in 1804 and was later replaced by the current one around 1915. Timber floating continued here until 1981. Today, you’ll find cabin and lean-to accommodations available.
