The city train takes you at a pleasant trip in Haugesund which has a unique story to tell about how the city was built on herring and shipping. The city train in Haugesund has guidance in 9 languages.
The trip starts in the center and runs at a leisurely pace on Hasseløy, or "Bakarøyna" as it is called. From there, the trip goes north towards Haraldsstøtta before we take a break. Then the train runs towards the center via Byparken, down Smedasundet and south where "the gold floated in the streets" in the post-war period. When we return to the city center, it's time to get to know the city's Italian-inspired town hall, which in 2010 has been named Norway's finest town hall.
Before to get it back at the station in Kaigata, the tour goes around Our Savior's Church from 1901. The church with the 53 meter high tower gave the lighthouse a view of Haugesund for a short ten years after the church was completed. The city train in Haugesund shows you the city and gives you an insight into the history of how "Sildabyen" grew frame.
Guiding in 9 languages: Norwegian, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Russian and Hebrew.
