To experience climbing in the sun by a waterfall is fantastic! A few kilometers outside Voss, lies an idyllic climbing cliff that offers suitable climbing challenges for everyone.
Trip outline
This trip gives you a taste of real climbing. Situated just outside of Voss, the cliffs near Staup have bolted sport routes fitting both beginners and intermediate climbers. This climbing crag features close proximity to Voss, high quality rock and a very picturesque, countryside setting.
Participants will try top-rope climbing on routes fitting to their own ability levels. You do not need to prove yourself to anyone. You decide for yourself how high you want to go and how much climbing you would like to try. Our goal is for all the participants to have fun climbing. If you are up for a challenge, perhaps you would like to try the longest route on the crag, some 30 meters high?
You will also get the chance to try abseiling from the top of the cliffs. This will feel like a real challenge to many. Your instructor will ensure your safety during the spectacular approach to the top of the cliffs and on the abseil itself. You abseilf off the cliffs individually, with a safety backup-system in place.
The climbing experience is easy to combine with pleasant hikes in the area. Close to the cliffs lies the refurbished Staupstunet, a lovely cluster of old farm houses. Here you will get a sense of the local cultural history. The path heading up towards the mountain farms of Moldbakken and Breiming starts next to the car park. This path takes you close to the lovely waterfalls of the river Breimo. Perhaps you would like to enjoy a refreshing bath in one of the potholes?
Reasons to go
Climbing gives you an intense feeling of presence, flow and joy. The feeling of being high above ground, combined with the physical and mental challenges, requires your complete attention and focus. Climbing is a great way to clear your mind of everything else, and just focus on the climb. The nearby waterfall, the picturesque countryside and the peaceful surroundings all contribute to a memorable experience.
