Join a small, exclusive group of guests on a closed RIB boat to the Russian ghost town Pyramiden and the mighty Nordenskiöld glacier.
Pyramiden was once one of the largest settlements on Svalbard, with about 1000 inhabitants. Our boat is smaller and faster than the larger boats going to the same destination, our guests don`t travel in large groups. In the late 90s the town was abandoned and it is now more like a historical ”document” where it lies at the head of Billefjorden. All the buildings and many technical installations still remain. Inside the houses everything is like it was when it was abandoned and it is not difficult to imagine the place teeming with activity.
Your guide will take you on a tour around the settlement in Pyramiden and it will be served warm lunch from "Restaurant Polfareren" outside, before heading heading back to the boat. On our way back we drive up to the majestic Nordenskiöldbreen. The front of the glacier is one of the most spectacular on Svalbard. It is very likely you will get to see several animals, unique to the Arctic environment, while we drive to and from Pyramiden.
Note! Early in the season it may be too much ice in Billefjorden to reach Pyramiden by sea.
