The Elgtråkket circular trail passes through varied forest terrain and is waymarked with elk symbols.
Duration: approx. 1 hr (2.7 km)
Difficulty level: Easy
Season: May–Oct
The Elgtråkket circular trail passes through varied forest terrain and is waymarked with elk symbols. Along the route are 11 infoboards telling you about the nature and culture of the area, with the emphasis on elks.
Access: Take county road 32 from Skien to Siljan. Turn towards the slalom hill and sign “P 100 m”. Park at the parking area 100 m on the left. You can also take the Grenlandsekspressen express bus or local bus P7 to the Heivannet/Solvika Cafe bus stop.
Description of hike: Walk through the main entrance to the campsite and continue along the water’s edge and over the bridge. The hike continues through an area of cottages along Heivannet lake and then turns north-east through the forest. The skeleton of an elk has been erected immediately before the highest point on the walk – take a good look! Once you’ve passed the highest point, follow the footpath through the forest, crossing a logging road several times. Be careful to follow the right route. You can also follow the logging road down to the road that leads to the slalom hill. The final part of the hike takes you back along the road to the car park.
