Do you enjoy an active holiday the best?
Now you can cycle the Union Trail from the train station in Moss to Mysen, enjoy a good dinner and lovely hotel beds at Scandic Brennemoen before the trip continues towards Ørje and west again to Askim station.
The union route from Moss to Karlstad is a newly opened 350 km signposted cycle path where nature and culture are important elements. If you want to cycle in two countries with an exciting and varied nature in an area rich in nature experiences, the Union Trail is an excellent choice.
The bike ride starts by the Oslo Fjord in Moss and ends in Karlstad, which is located by Sweden's largest lake, Vänern. But you can also take a round tour in Norway. Our suggestion is that you cycle to Ørje and take the northern route back to Askim and train home from here.
The name of the trail comes from the fact that Sweden and Norway between 1814 - 1905 were a union. The association was formed in Moss and ended in Karlstad just like the bike path. Since the dissolution of the Union, we have continued to be good neighbors with a lot of cross-border exchanges.
The union trail goes through a rolling natural landscape with beautiful lakes and forest terrain, and when you cycle you have plenty of time to see the landscape and the small unique gems that appear along the route. The common historical heritage with the time of the union and other important historical events, is woven into it as part of the attraction. Spydeberg vicarage to name one - Here our constitution was saved. The best documented 18th century garden can be found here. Other places to visit, sights and accommodation along the trail are also visible.
Facts of the Union: The trail runs on the Norwegian side from Moss-Våler-Spydeberg-Askim-Mysen-Ørje. There is also a northern route that goes around Trøgstad.
Price per person: NOK 895. The price includes an overnight stay in a double room at Scandic Brennemoen with breakfast and a 2-course dinner. For booking contact us by e-mail: brennemoen@scandichotels.com or via tel. 64 87 90 00
Tip: Take the train to Moss and from Askim by bike! https://www.vy.no/kjop- tickets/tog tickets-og-buss tickets See stage descriptions and plan your trip along the Union Trail here
