Dønnes Church
Dønne's church at Dønna on the Helgeland coast has been named Northern Norway's most beautiful church. Here is Norway's most numerous mausoleum. The church is located close to Dønnes Gård. A tour of the church is something you should do while visiting Dønna.
Dønnes Church is a medieval church from the 13th century. The church has history and architecture from both the Middle Ages, early modern times, and romance. The church contains, among other things, 800-year-old medieval art from Germany, as well as paintings and pulpits from the 1600s.
At the end of the 17th century, Dønnes church had a built-in mausoleum, which today holds 22 chests and corpses, and is one of Norway's largest. The tour gives you an insight into the mausoleum.
Dønnes Gård is today an accommodation and is itself an interesting and historic place. Close by is Dønnesfjellet which is a favorite hiking destination (there is a road to the top) with great views out over the archipelago.
