Day trip groups - Unique cultural landscape in the border villages
Unique cultural landscape in the border villages
The day starts at Bakergaarden in Ørje. A good breakfast is served in a really cozy athmosphere.
The trip goes south and the next stop is Bøensætre Husmannsplass and "Farmen-gården" in Aremark. This place is a unique example of culture, and the largest and best preserved homestead in Østfold. Here, the interaction between nature, animals and people is put in focus. Untraveled home cooking based on local ingredients is offered on the farm, and various courses such as health trips with homemade cosmetics and food from wild plants are held here.
Further south is Strømsfoss and here you will find Møllerens Hus - a place with a very special and charming atmosphere. There is a shop and café where you will find handicrafts, clothes, jewellery, rarities, snuff boxes of all kinds, in all shapes and sizes. The cafe's menu can include milled bread, sveler and sour cream porridge.
Right by Mølleren's house is Strømsfoss Mill. This is a village mill from 1897 which has been put into operation again. Here you can get a tour of the mill, which has been given the status of national museum for mills. The mill's second and third floors are used for Galleri Strømsfoss, and the lower floor has its own power station.
