This tour is conducted by Tromsø Villmarkssenter. Taste the musher’s life and explore the mountains and valleys of Tromsø region with a dog sled.
Each member of the expedition will be responsible for his or her own team of dogs and you will get to experience every aspect of life as a musher in the Arctic.
Before the expedition starts you get a full introduction into dog sledding. Then we head out towards the mountains and, depending on weather, we drive for 5-8 hours to our campsite where we settle down for the night. You get to take care of the dogs before you set up your own camp. Hopefully, the Northern Lights will appear.
After breakfast the next day you will go further up the mountains to enjoy the beauty of the Arctic wilderness. Possible wildlife sightings along the trail include fox, eagles, arctic and snowshoe hares, moose and reindeer.
Around 05:00pm (17:00), you will return to our Centre where we will serve a traditional Sami meal “Bidos” (Reindeer broth with meat and vegetables) in a Sami tent.
During the two days expedition, you will learn about dog sledding. No former experience is needed ,but the trip requires a good physical condition. Our Alaskan huskies love people and are very friendly so you might make some furry friends during the tour.
This expedition starts only on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The minimum group size for this activity is two persons. If you are traveling alone and we do not receive other bookings, we will either offer you a rescheduling, an alternative activity or a full refund.
