Dokken is a small, atmospheric district that dates back to the very early days of Haugesund. It is a place where you can see boathouses with living quarters, a herring salting plant, cooperage, general store and apartment buildings from the herring boom, which lasted from the 1850s to the 1960s. The photo exhibition ‘Life between the houses’ gives an insight into the religious and social lives of people in the notso-distant past. Dokken is ideal for children. The Sildajazz Festival opens each year at Dokken Museum.
This summer you can loan a small boat from Dokken museum for free. It fits 4 adults or 2 adults and 3-4 smaller children. Life jackets will be required and are also available (free).
