6 days Dog sledge expedition to Newtontoppen - the highest mountain on Spitsbergen!
This trip is for those who seek arctic challenges and true arctic conditions with snow and ice and dogs. It is planned for the active adventurers who are eager to set up tents, feed the dogs and enjoy life around arctic camp. This trip is a true expedition, and for those who are seeking a high level of personal service we recommend our other dog sledding program.
We believe this is the ultimate trip - dog sledding to the archipelago's highest mountain!

DAY 1: The day starts at 08:30 am, where we depart by boat from Longyearbyen to our Nordenskiöld Lodge. We spend time getting familiar with the dogs and our equipment and we will learn the basics about dog sledding and arctic conditions. Safety on the expedition is our main priority and therefore we set some rules for the expedition in terms of weather and snow conditions and polar bear safety. In the evening we make ourselves a tasty dinner.

DAY 2: After breakfast, we will harness our teams and start our expedition towards Mount Newton. While harnessed to the front of the sledge the dogs are eager to lead us even further into the arctic land and towards our arctic adventure. We have packed all our equipment and are ready to enter the arctic wilderness. We are ready to start our big Spitsbergen experience that waits us up north. The route goes north up to the magnificent Nordenskiöld glacier. On top of the glacier, we can enjoy the great view over Billefjorden during a lunch break. Before the evening falls, we will set up a tent camp, prepare expedition dinner and climb into a warm sleeping bags.

DAY 3: In the morning when the dogs start to get restless, it is time to head out to the wilderness. First, we make sure both 2- and 4- legged have had a solid breakfast. If the weather is good, we will get all the way to the foot of the Mount Newton. This is the mighty mountain we are hoping to conquer - the highest mountain on Spitsbergen! However, the conditions are often tough in this area, so we focus on having a great trip in the surroundings of Newton top, and getting to the top will only be a bonus. We will camp for the evening and relax before the possible tough leg tomorrow.

DAY 4: Today we will climb quite a many meter all the way to the top of Mount Newton, if we decide to try. From the mountain peak, if the weather is clear, we can see far to the north side of the archipelago and feel the brutal and beautiful arctic nature all around us. The aim is to have lunch at Svalbard's highest mountain at 1713 meters above sea level! This is a view only few people get to experience. Coming down from the mountain goes very fast and before the evening we will set our camp again at the foot of the mountain. If going for the top is not an option, we keep dreaming, and lay low.
Accommodation in tent.

DAY 5: By now, we have become familiar with each other and the dogs. We will once more wrap up our camp and return to the big and open glacier system. After many days in tents, you are most likely looking forward to the hot sauna, warm fireplace and the soft beds that are waiting for us at the Nordenskiöld Lodge. Upon arrival to the cabin, we will take care of the dogs and then we can finally relax inside the hut and enjoy the evening.

In Spitsbergen, weather conditions can change quickly. We can meet heavy winds, snowstorms, thick fog, crevasses and lack of snow or ice. It can also mean that we need to use a different transportation style or accommodation than what was described in the program.
