Exclusive wildlife & nature photo exploring, with your own personal photo guide - See & Explore

Our tours stand out significantly from other walking and hiking tours in and around Longyearbyen.

Our walks are dedicated exclusively to observing and experiencing birds and wildlife, and are designed as SLOW TOURS.

This means we move at nature’s pace — sometimes staying in one spot while waiting for wildlife or birds to appear.

Because of this, we do not follow a fixed route that must be completed within a strict timeframe.

Our guides are also skilled photographers with extensive knowledge of the local birdlife and Arctic wildlife, giving you a deeper and more rewarding experience in the field. We spend a great deal of time sharing wildlife sightings within our team, which allows us to focus our time at the most active locations.

On this 1 pax tour, we offer you a perfect and genuine experience and hike, where our focus is to give you time and opportunities for photography in our Arctic environment, the rich bird and animal life in and around Longyearbyen. We only use the areas close to, in and around Longyearbyen, on our daily trips. Photography is our specialty and we will show you the very best spots in and around Longyearbyen.

With a limited number of 1-one participant, this trip is more exclusive. What we will do, the duration of the tour, start and end, what we meet out there and not least depending on whether and the wildlife. This trip focuses on watching, photographing and the guide is an experienced nature guides. This is truly an exclusive product. We will take only YOU out, just YOU and the guide, to locations where you can see, experience and take pictures undisturbed.

See & Explore are based in Longyearbyen, Svalbard.Founder Oddgeir Sagerup has 35 years of experience behind the camera and, as one of several guides, will facilitate your ability to take great and unique photos of nature, for example, and the rich animal and bird life in and around Longyearbyen.

N.B We have three guides, and in addition to Oddgeir, you may also meet Ingrid W.I or Ida S.F as guides on our tours.

Our activities will allow you to experience our Arctic nature, both in summer and winter conditions, in both good and wild weather conditions, in the safe hands of our photo guides, where your safety and respect for the nature are our highest priorities.

We plan our tours according to the seasons, taking weather conditions into account, and we try to find the best places for you to capture images of nature and wildlife. We know where you can have great experiences and where you can capture your "best shot," and we do everything we can to help you succeed. We use the car as a base, but our tours will involve short and longer hikes to find the right spots to see and experience this fantastic bird and animal life.

N.B Please note that from October to March, the focus is solely on nature, Arctic foxes, Svalbard reindeer, and Svalbard ptarmigans (which are difficult to find from November to January). In April, the snow bunting, eider ducks, king eiders, and guillemots also arrive in the bird cliffs. Geese arrive in mid-May, and during May, waders, divers, and several other bird species also arrive. Arctic foxes start shedding their fur in early May and don't have their lovely summer coats until late June. The birdlife is abundant in June and July, and during these two months, we focus a lot on birds. In late June, the female reindeer appear with their new calves, and by July, the males have large and magnificent antlers.

N.B Polar bears are generally rarely or not found in and around Longyearbyen, so we do not focus on it.

Northern Lights

From October 23rd to March 3rd, we offer evening tours where we venture outside the town and experience the Arctic night. If we are lucky with the weather and the Northern Lights, this can be a fantastic experience.

As a participant on one of our half-day and full-day tours, you will experience the Arctic nature both during the summer and the dark but bright winter, under varying weather and light conditions. We prioritize your safety, and above all, we have great respect for the vulnerable nature and wildlife here in the Arctic.
