Guided tour to Hardanger – see the beautiful Hardangerfjord, waterfalls, taste some local cider and try the sauna by the fjord.
While driving along the Hardangerfjord in our first class bus, we get to see the fantastic nature filled with hidden gems. Local guides from Trolltunga Adventures will take us along the fjords, to waterfalls, for a swim in the fjord and a relaxing sauna. We will taste some local and renowned cider from “Hardangergutane”, eat lunch at Tessas Applefarm and enjoy the panoramic view from the popular “Kråkestien”.
The tour is tailor-made and you get to see some of the most beautiful Norwegian nature.
Trolltunga Adventures and Fjordrive wish you all welcome to Hardanger for a day!
The tour in more detail:
The tour starts by bus at The Tourist Information in Bergen, before we head towards Norheimsund and Steinsdalsfossen, one of the most visited waterfalls in Norway.
This is where we officially enter Hardanger. Steinsdalsfossen is well known for being able to walk behind the waterfall without becoming wet. Steinsdalsfossen has a drop of 50 meters, but up close it looks like so much more when you can feel its natural powers. This is the perfect spot to take some great photos!
Leaving the waterfall we drive towards Tørrvikbygd to take the beautiful ferry ride across the Hardangerfjord to Jondal.
After the 30 minute ferry ride, we stop at perhaps the biggest gem only locals know of in Hardanger; a secret waterfall. Here we’ll have an typical Norwegian lunch outdoors with outstanding view of the valley and lake surrounding the waterfall. A definite highlight on this tour!
After lunch we’ll drive along the narrow Sørfjorden to Børve were you’ll get ready for the best Hardanger has to offer; cider. The people of Hardanger have been growing fruit since the 1300th century, and are famous for their local cider. Surrounded by fjords, glaciers and steep mountains, we arrive at the farm belonging to “Hardangergutane” in “Sørfjorden”. The two brothers from “Børve '' make their apple juice and apple cider from local premium apples, made in real Hardanger style. Get a taste of Hardanger and try different types of juices and ciders with the Hardangergutane (Hardanger boys.)
After some cider tasting nothing is more refreshing than a swim in the Hardangerfjord. You can also try the amazing panoramic sauna “Heit Sauna” in Sørfjorden, which is a part of Hardangerfjord. After a fresh dip in the fjord - sitting in a hot sauna is a healthy restart for both body and soul. Enjoy the warmth of the wood-burning stove, while you feel your shoulders drop and your body filled with peace.
There is not a better way to go from a cider tasting, then to enter “Tessas Eplefarm”. Tessas is not an ordinary apple farm, but a cultural gem. You will be guided to an exclusive visit to the Norwegian composer and pianist Edward Grieg’s summerhouse, which he used three summers in a row in the 18th century. The short walk up the old road to the summerhouse, is the road Grieg transported his piano from the fjord up to the farm. Upon arrival at the farm, we will taste some traditional homemade Norwegian svele (batter-based cake) with fruits from the farm.
After regaining some energy from the local provisions, we continue to another highlight in the scenic route. Here we will get our pulse rate up, with a small hike up “Kråkestien” to see a spectacular panoramic view of the fjord and “Lofthus” area. You can also just relax and enjoy the view of endless appletrees and the Lofthus fjord if you prefer. This stop is the perfect way to end the tour, leaving you with great memories and breath-taking experiences.
On our way back to Bergen, we will drive across the well known Hardanger suspension bridge. “Hardangerbroen” was made in 2013 and is the 10th longest suspension bridge in the world and Norway’s largest. In addition, we also drive through the city of Voss before we return to the Tourist Information in Bergen.
