You will get a great overview of the varied and scenic landscape in Nordfjord - narrow deep fjords, majestic mountains and small islands far out at sea. If you dare to, you can lie down on the edge of the cliff and look straight down on the sea 860 meters below you.
Hiking to Hornelen is a full day trip, but it is worth the effort you put in. The view is spectacular! We sail to a cozy harbour for the night in Rugsund Handelsstad who is an old bargain place from the middle of the 1600. There is a small shop and cafe.

Saturday: Hiking Skaala in Loen
Skåla - this imposingly beautiful giant of a mountain - towers over the village of Loen in Nordfjord, and is considered one of the most spectacular mountain walks in Norway. If you want to get to the top in life, you have to be prepared for some uphill battles. To reach the top of Skåla (1848 m), you won’t find a longer uphill stretch in the whole of Norway. Mount Skåla is poplular both for hiking and for ski touring.
Skåla - this imposingly beautiful giant of a mountain - towers over the village of Loen. A good man-made track winds its way through the rocky terrain a whopping 1848 vertical metres from the shoreline of the fjord. Skålatårnet - the tower at the summit - is not just the kind of DNT (Norwegian Trekking Association) self-service.
"Be aware that the mountain drops very steeply to the north. This side often has a big overhanging cornice. Keep a very safe distance, especially during winter and spring. The walk has been graded as ""Expert"" because of the tough climb (0-1848 m.). The path is very good."
