Valsøya is a hidden gem in Heim municipality, surrounded by fjord, forest and mountains. Here, food experiences, accommodation and activities come together in one place. You stay close to nature, yet with easy access to continue your journey. It is an ideal stop between Trondheim and Nordmøre, or a small city break with a slower pace and more presence.
Naustet Restaurant
The meal is a central part of the experience at Valsøya. At Naustet Restaurant, the menu follows the seasons, and more than 30% of the ingredients come from producers in the local area.
The kitchen combines local traditions with modern cuisine – from seafood and meat to seasonal vegetables. The dishes reflect the ingredients that are at their best right now.
The restaurant is located in the courtyard and has large windows overlooking the fjord. The atmosphere is bright and informal, with nature as a natural part of the setting around the meal.
In the historic Saltrøfjøset from 1760, dining takes on a more rustic feel, with timber walls and a clear sense of history. On warm days, the backyard also opens for outdoor dining.
Accommodation with soul
Valsøya offers 16 rooms and cabins, each with its own identity.
At Olaushuset, you are welcomed by timber walls and modern comfort. The rooms are named after people who have left their mark on Valsøya and the Heim area, giving your stay a strong local connection.
Jordmorstua has its own character and atmosphere by the fjord, while the small pod houses offer a warm and nature-close stay in true glamping style. What all the buildings share is history and soul. A love for old, reused craftsmanship is combined with comfort and thoughtful details.
There are also pitches for motorhomes and tents, as well as guest berths in the marina.
Experiences by the fjord
Within walking distance from the courtyard is the climbing park Høyt & Lavt Valsøya, with courses at different heights and levels of difficulty. Here, both children and adults can experience mastery and excitement in safe surroundings up among the treetops. The instructors make sure the experience is the best possible for all age groups. The climbing park also has its own kiosk where you can buy ice cream, waffles and other treats.
The fjord invites you to go kayaking or boating, both available for rent. The surrounding area offers hiking destinations such as Hennafjellet and Ruten. Every August, Hestholmen Retrofestival is arranged. A lively music weekend by the shoreline that brings people together from across the regions.
More than just a stop
Many guests stop at Valsøya for a good meal, and choose to stay the night.
With the fjord as a backdrop, seasonal flavours on the plate and experiences right outside your door, Valsøya is a complete destination for families, travellers passing through, and anyone looking for a calmer city break with real content.
