Experience a fossiled whale and living birds on this hike in Bolterdalen !!
For this expedition, we will pick you up at your hotel before we drive out to Adventdalen – the Advent valley. Right from the start, we’ll have good chances to see the Svalbard reindeer as they’re often seen munching on the vegetation found in this area.
After a short drive, we’ll head out towards Bolterdalen – one of the side valleys from Adventdalen. We’ll pull the car over and take a look at the remains of a whale that is 9400 years old!
Once we arrive at the Green Dog dog yard, we’ll park the car and get ready to continue our expedition on foot. Our guide will get his backpack, which has necessary safety equipment as well as some hot beverage.
The first part of our hike is down towards a river that runs through the valley floor. We’ll stay close to a grass-covered mountainside so we won’t get wet, but we got to be careful and look out for any bird nests in the area. The birds like to lay their eggs here because the dogs at our dog yard scares away any Arctic foxes that roam the area.Bolterdalen is a great area to experience any wildlife, such as the Svalbard reindeer and grouse, but the valley is also surrounded by impressive mountains and the view to the north and south is nothing but spectacular. We’ll take many resting stops along the way. We’ll heat up on some hot beverage while we take in the view. Our guide will take you back to our dog yard where you can meet and cuddle with our puppies and other dogs before we gather in our warm and charming cabin for waffles and hot tea or coffee.Afterwards we’ll drive you back to your hotel in Longyearbyen where you can enjoy the rest of your day.
