Kristiansand region can offer deep-sea-fishing, salmon and trout fishing in the rivers Otra, Tovdal and Søgne and fishing in idyllic lakes in the nearby forest.

Fishing in rivers and lakes in the Kristiansand region. The south coast offers great sports fishing opportunities throughout the year. In order to fish in the sea you do not need any fishing permits, but anyone who want to fish in rivers, must pay a government fee, fishing fee (Fiskeavgiften). Fishing fee (over 16 years) can be paid at Post Office or at fiskeravgift.miljodirektoratet.no.

Fishing licenses (fiskekort) must be purchased for fishing rights to specific rivers. Fishing gear must be disinfected before fishing is allowed in Norway. Mandal River, Otra River and Tovdal river has equpment for the disinfection system.

In Kristiansand municipality there is a general fishing permit available for rod fishing in 35 waters for the whole year, which costs NOK 200. For children under 16 freshwater fishing is free from 1 January to 20 August.

DEEP-SEA FISHING - Welcome to a fishing trip! The number of fishing places in the skerries is almost unlimited. Like in all other ocean areas, successful fishing is partly dependent on the season, the weather and wind conditions.

FISHING SEASONS:
COD: Feb/June and Aug./December are the best months, although cod may be fished all year round.
MACKEREL: Midsummer's Eve to September.
POLLACK AND COLEY: May to September (Coley all year long).
SEA TROUT: Can be caught from land and from a boat all year round.
EQUIPMENT DEEP DRAGGING LINE : A relatively thick fishing line with a heavy sinker and several hooks attached.
JIG: A piece of equipment with a big, heavy spinner resembling a Coley attached, which serves as a combination of bait and sinker.
HARP: Used when a boat is drifting with the current or during trolling. This fishing line is most commonly equipped with worm-like hooks, some silvery spinners and a lead weight.
RIGLE: A type of harp where the worm-like hooks and spinners have been replaced by ordinary hooks.
