Most visitors to Lofoten wish to experience a day at sea. For the summer of 2017 we offer daily four-hour fishing trips from Svolvær. You get to try your luck catching fish, soak up fresh sea air and enjoy yourself on board our authentic fishing cutter MS Symra.
Fishing has been the central feature of Lofoten’s history, and it has in many ways contributed to building our country. The rich seasonal Lofoten fisheries, Lofotfisket, where the skrei comes from the Barents Sea to Lofoten to spawn, have taken place for hundreds of years. Lofotfisket has provided Norwegians with essential protein rich meals at least since the Viking era. Today Lofotfisket remains important for us, and we wish to welcome you to a four-hour traditional fishing trip at the Lofoten sea, where you will also hear stories about Lofoten and the fisheries. This includes sea fishing with line wheel and/or fishing rod, and we serve coffee on board.
Fishing in Lofoten varies greatly with the season, and during the traditional Lofotfisket, from end of February to April, we catch skrei. In summer, we catch other types of fish, like pollock, haddock, mackerel and coastal cod.
MS Symra is our traditional fishing cutter, and she turns 100 years old in 2017. She is a comfortable boat built specifically for Lofotfisket and is certified for 38 passengers. She is protected by the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage.
What will you experience?
We invite you to our main office at the pier in Svolvær harbour, where you will be welcomed by your hosts and crew. Our crew are professional fishermen and know these seas like their own back pocket. They provide full information about what you can expect from the day out, safety on board and they will teach you how to use the fishing tools and equipment featured on board. We then sail out of Svolvær, past the Fisherman’s Wife statue, and head out to the fishing banks we know from experience can provide a good catch, where the location varies depending on the season. There are 10 fishing stations on board, so our guests must expect to share these between them on the trip. But do not worry, we expect you will be very satisfied by the time we head back to port. And the catch? We teach you to fillet it on board, and of course you can take it home with you if you wish. We also offer vacuum packing if you don’t expect to consume the fish during your stay in Lofoten.
Fishing trips during this period are arranged daily 10:00-14:00 and 15:00-19:00.
Price: NOK 790 per person. Family price (2+2): NOK 1,580.
Other timings and group outings can be arranged on request.
Who is this trip suited for?
We have made this trip suitable for those who have little or no fishing experience, but who would like to try it experiencing it during a great day at sea. We cannot guarantee a catch, but we do our utmost to help through finding the right fishing spots. The boat trip itself is an experience if you like to immerse yourself in nature, like photography or is interested in learning about fishing. No two trips are alike, and we often see sea eagles and other birds on our trips.
What should you bring and wear?

• Wool underwear, which isolates and breathes
• Fleece, wool sweater or another insulating middle layer in a bag/rucksack with you.
Included from our side:
• Suitable fishing kit
• Safety suit which makes you float, and waterproof work clothes
• Footwear, mittens and hat as necessary
• Hot beverages
• Our experienced crew and four hours fishing trip
