Enjoy local flavours in beautiful Stange Vestbygd
Eat and sleep well in “Tuscany of the North”
Fjetre Gård is located in the stunning Stange Vestbygd, or “Tuscany of the North” as the area was described in a VG newspaper article in 2013. The farm is only 5 km south of Hamar, and offers meeting/function facilities as well as accommodation. It also produces grain, potatoes, and carrots. The buildings date back to the 1700s, and the cottage sleeps a total of 12 people. It has 6 rooms, each with two single beds and a basin, and there is a bathroom in the hallway on the ground floor and on the first floor. Bed linen and towels are included in the price. Ideal for groups. There are lounges on both floors, and the cottage has a fully equipped kitchen.
As a trained chef, the hostess serves colourful and delicious dishes from a professional kitchen in the main farmhouse – and focus is on local food. – We use what is available during the season, and do our best to tailor our cuisine to suit the guests’ preferences, says Astrid Marie.
Long skating history
The farm is renowned for its ice-skating heritage, and you have to book early to get a room during major skating events in Vikingskipet. Just before and particularly after the Great War, the farm was used as a training centre and has played host to many athletes – including the Dutch national speed skating team on several occasions. It was on the rough ice in the yard at Fjetre the legendary Peter Sinnerud took his first skating strides. Interestingly, Sven Peter Sinnerud, the current farmer and the grandchild of the speed-skating legend, is an ice technician and has been responsible for the ice in Vikingskipet for decades. He was also brought in as a specialist ice consultant during the Turin 2006 Olympics.
Atlungstad Golf as closest neighbour
Spectacular Atlungstad Golf, which is one of Norway's most beautiful golf courses, is the next-door neighbour. Another great experience close by is Atlungstad Brenneri – a heritage distillery offering guided tours, delicious food and – of course – aquavit, all year round. There are also way-marked walks and cycle paths, as well as excellent swimming opportunities in Mjøsa, to enjoy during your stay at Fjetre Gård.
The farm's pub, Put’n In Bar – a name that plays on the links with the golf course – is open every Friday in June and August. Other opening times during the summer season can be arranged.
