At its strongest, the current between the islands of Ryøya and Kvaløya runs like a river. Many species of birds and fish are found in this area, which is called Rystrømmen. When you drop a fishing line, you may catch an assortment of cod, wolfish and saith (pollock). If you’re lucky, a halibut, queen of the ocean, could bite your lure.
It is possible to experience the joyful cries of kittiwakes, cormorants, puffins, eagles and many other birds. Once in a while Ryøya’s muskoxen come down to the shore to say hello. The entire trip lasts three hours. It takes about 30 minutes to get to Rystrømmen, The catch will be cooked and served with flatbread, butter, salt and pepper. Laktosefree fishsoup can be bought onboard (NOK 150 per pax).
From September to March, we always hope for the chance of observing the Northern Lights in darkness. Away from the city light pollution, they will appear particularly bright and powerful.
