Join veteran ship MS Bruvik on a fjord cruise from Ålesund through the Hjørundfjord, past steep peaks and quiet fjord villages.

From Ålesund into the Hjørundfjord

From Ålesund, the trip takes you into the Hjørundfjord, where steep mountains plunge straight into the sea on both sides. On board MS Bruvik, a well-preserved veteran ship from 1949, you experience the fjord the way locals have travelled it for generations – with still fjord waters and mountains close on every side.

The route to Øye – fjord villages and mountain peaks

The trip runs from Ålesund to the small fjord village of Øye, with the Hjørundfjord as the only way in. Along the way, you glide past the fjord villages of Sæbø, Standal, Trandal and Urke, with the Sunnmøre Alps close by: from the deck you can spot peaks such as Slogen (1,564 m), Skårasalen (1,542 m) and Saksa (1,073 m) rising straight from the fjord.

On board MS Bruvik

On board you'll find two saloons, a sun deck aft and a bar lounge on the upper deck, with food and drink for sale during the trip. The crew are locals who are happy to share stories about the boat and the fjord as you sail, and the tour includes an audio guide in English for international guests.

Tickets, season and practical tips

You can choose the round trip Ålesund–Øye–Ålesund, which takes around five hours, or a one-way ticket – handy if you want to combine the fjord cruise with a hike at Øye, or continue your journey by car or bus. MS Bruvik sails from May to September. Book your ticket and check current departures with Cruise Service.

Dress for the weather – much of the experience takes place on the sun deck, and the fjord air can be cooler than you'd expect.
