Accommodation at Brekke Locks, Haldenkanalen. When renting the cabin, there are 2 canoes that can be used freely
Fløterhytta in Halden is one of the cabins for the Oslo Fjord Outdoor Guidance, and is located directly at Brekke Locks - Europe's tallest locks. The locks are a part of the Halden canal.
The cabin is equipped with power, two bunk beds (sleeps 4), refrigerator, stove and all necessary equipment in the kitchen. Water is collected in the crane at the main house. There is access to a shower in the sanitary building by the barn.
When renting the cabin, there are 2 canoes that can be used freely. Oars are in the cabin, and a total of 6 life-jackets in adult size. Children must have their own vest (this can be rented for a cheap money on all fire stations).
"Fløter" in the name Fløterhytta means to transport timber on water. "Hytta" means cabin.
The underlying motivation for the construction of the Halden Canal was the need to transport timber to the sawmills at Tistedalsfossen - the waterfall in Halden. Canal inspector Engebret Soot initiated the building of the canal and work began in 1852 with the construction of Brekke Locks
