Fossesholm Manor is a cultural gem for the whole family. In 1541, the governor of Akershus, Peder Hansen Litle, consolidated the enormous Foss estate. The estate laid the foundation for the country's first significant venture into sawmill operations and timber trade with Europe. In 1763, merchant Jørgen von Cappelen bought the estate and developed and modernized the manor.
Today, the main building of Fossesholm Manor is a museum that showcases the beautiful interiors from the estate's heyday in the 18th century. The rest of the estate offers a doll exhibition, a home front museum, and rotating art exhibitions. There is also a handicraft shop and a small café. For the little ones, there are interactive activities such as dressing up as landowners, jumping in the hay, and meeting the friendly sheep, chickens, and peacocks.
