Overview

FOSSESHOLM
One of Norway’s grandest manor houses!

In 1541, Peder Hanssøn, lord of Akershus, brought together a number of properties to form the enormous estate Fossgodset. The estate was the driving force behind one of the first major Norwegian investments in sawmills and timber trade with Europe. In the 1760s, merchant Jørgen Cappelen bought the manor and began a substantial expansion and modernisation of the estate.

The old main building is now a museum where you can admire the beautiful interiors from the manor’s golden age in the 18th century.

There is also a home front museum with changing exhibitions, a handicraft shop and a small cafe. In the summer, there are a number of activities at Fossesholm, including activity days for children, concerts and plays. Before Christmas we create a seasonal spirit with our own Christmas shop.

Our premises are available all year for weddings and other functions.
