Fossheim steinsenter is a geological museum and jewelry gallery, shop, and workshop in Lom sentrum. Here you’ll find the country’s largest selection of minerals and gemstones.
Fossheim Stone Center is a stone museum where a total of Norwegian minerals from just over 700 occurrences are exhibited, more than 30 different gemstone varieties, and 20 faceted minerals. Here you will also find the world’s oldest stone—a meteorite that is 4,600 million years old.
Fossheim Stone Center sells stone art of all kinds; everything from framed stone slabs and decorative stone to light fountains, as well as a large selection of fossils—memories from a world that once was. Several Stone Age tools (yes, they are real!) and replicas of weapons and tools from the Viking Age are also on display, such as a mammoth tooth.
The museum helps you with information about where you can find Thulite, Norway’s national stone, and with information and knowledge about the Geo Trail in Leirdalen.
The Free Pile:
Outside the door, kids can search for nice stones in the “Free Pile.” It is replenished daily with exciting stone samples that you can take with you!
