Each year, on the 17th of May the whole of Norway celebrates the Norwegian Constitution Day. The city of Bergen has one of the largest celebrations in the country.  Join us for a guided tour to get a better understanding of Bergen's role in one of the most exciting periods in Norwegian history.

Meeting point:
The tour starts at Christie’s statue, in front of the University Museum, and takes youthrough Bergen’s role in the construction of the Norwegian national identity between the years 1814 and 1905. Learn  about some of the traditions behind the 17th of May celebration in Bergen.

You’ll be hearing stories about the exciting journey of the Bergen delegation travelling towards Eidsvoll, and why the representatives gathered there to sign the Norwegian constitution. Your guide will highlight those who built and promoted the Norwegian identity in the years leading up to the dissolution of the union with Sweden in 1905. You will learn about romantic spirits with grand egos, and great artists who shaped the image and sound of Norway from Bergen. In a year when we will be having quite a different celebration than what we are used to, you can relive some of the most memorable 17th of May celebrations in Bergen’s history on this guided tour.

Duration:
The tour takes about 1, 5 hours and covers 1,5 kilometers, walking at an easy pace. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately according to the weather conditions.

Language:
The tour will be conducted in English on Wednesday 12 May and Saturday 15 May. All other days only in Norwegian.

The tour must be booked online. The booking confirmation you receive by email is your ticket. Please show the confirmation on your mobile device or bring a printed copy at the start of the tour.

Cancellation policy:
-Cancellation made more than 48 hours before to departure: Full refund given
-Cancellations made less than 48 hours before departure: No refund given

If the organiser has to cancel the tour due to Covid-19 restrictions implied by the government, a full refund will be given.

Coronavirus measures:
To join this guided tour, you must show no symptoms of covid-19 infection or be in quarantine.
