The old road from Midtbygda school to Kikut was once the main route between Skien and Siljan. Along the way you’ll see remains of burial mounds and logs used as bridges over marshy ground.
Description of hike
The hike starts from the car park for the school, kindergarten and sports hall. Follow the road past the kindergarten, through the barrier, then turn right and continue for 200 m. The footpath then heads uphill, crossing Industrivegen and the housing development. From here, you walk through fine forest terrain and cross Skisjøvegen. Walk to Fiskebekkåsen and continue down to the south side of Meittjenn and past Semsetra, until the footpath finishes at the county road at Kikut.
Access
Take county road 32 between Skien and Siljan. Turn off towards “Idrettsanlegget” [sports centre] before Holtesletta. You can park by the school and sports hall. You can also take local bus P7 or the Grenlandsekspressen express bus to the Holtesletta bus stop. Follow the walkway to the school and sports hall (approx. 500 m).
