Drive your own team of huskies! This is an out of the ordinary experience to go dog sledding and a must for anyone who is visiting Northern Norway.
This tour is conducted by Aurora Alps.
The dog sled has been used for centuries throughout the Arctic region, mostly for travel and hunting reasons. Now it’s your chance to get closer to the raw arctic wildlife and try this adventurous way of travel.
The tour departs outside of the Scandic Ishavshotel in Tromsø where you will be picked up for a scenic 50-minute transfer to our camp in Breivikeidet.
Upon arrival at our camp in Breivikeidet, situated in a picturesque valley close to the sea, you will be welcomed by our friendly staff. We will provide you with polar insulated suits, boots, hats, and mittens before heading out on the dog sledding adventure.
Your guide will go through the safety instructions and show you the basics of driving the sled. You do not need any previous experience: after listening carefully to the demonstration and a few minutes of practice, you will be ready to drive the sled yourself on the open fields and inside the forest trails.
Two people will share one sled: one as a driver and the other one as a passenger. You will get the chance to swap places halfway through the tour so everyone gets to experience how it is like to be a dog musher and in return will have time to take photographs while seated on the sled.
After the dog sledding ride and arriving back at the camp, you will get the chance to strengthen your bond with the huskies that had helped you through your sledding adventure, to give and receive all the cuddles you can handle.
After saying goodbye to the dogs, you are invited into our lavvu (a traditional Sami tent), where we will serve you some hot drinks and cake. After taking off the thermal suits and changing back to your normal clothes, it is time to return to Tromsø. We hope to send you home with the memories of a once in a lifetime experience and some spectacular photos to remember it!
