Kåre Tveter
Kåre Tveter (1922-2012) had a poetic way of painting, and is known for his motifs with many shades of white, from Svalbard or the winter forests of eastern Norway. Tveter captured the light in a very special way, both on bright summer evenings and dark winter nights, and is rightly referred to as the ‘painter of light’.
Kåre Tveter was born in Sør-Odal on 25th of January 1922. He began studying at the National Academy of Fine Arts in 1953 under professors Per Krogh and Alexander Schultz, and made his debut at a group exhibition at Paletten in 1957. His breakthrough came with an exhibition in 1965, and he quickly became one of Norway's most recognised painters. Kåre Tveter was well into adulthood when he made his debut as an artist. Before deciding to become a full-time artist, Kåre first worked as an accountant in Sør-Odal, then at Landkreditt Bank in Oslo. In 1963, he was awarded a three-year work grant from the government, which gave him the freedom to focus fully on painting.
