Geitungen Lighthouse is operated by Haugesund Tourist Association and is available for accommodation from May to September.

Geitungen Lighthouse is one of the youngest lighthouses in Norway; it was designed by Jørgen H. Meinich, an engineer with the Norwegian Lighthouse Authority. A couple of years later, he also designed Makkaur Lighthouse in Finnmark, and the similarities between the two lighthouses are striking. A characteristic feature of Meinich's design is the curved roofs and beautiful details. These are details we also find in individual buildings at other stations. It was lit for the first time in 1924, replacing the lighthouse at Skudenes, which had been in operation since 1799. The main reason for building the lighthouse was to secure the approach to the Boknafjord, and in fact a new fog signal in the area was one of the main reasons why the lighthouse was placed where it is. The Geitungen lighthouse was automated and depopulated in 1994 and is now protected under the Cultural Heritage Act.

Haugesund Tourist Association operates the lighthouse as a tourist cabin in line with other cabins owned by the association. All rooms have 1 bed with a width of 1.5 metres. The code for the key box can be obtained from Haugesund Tourist Association when you have booked.
