Overview
Details

Gjendebu is beautifully situated by the west end of the lake Gjende, in the geographic centre of national park Jotunheimen, which is the most famous mountain-area in Norway.

Gjendebu is the oldest of the huts belonging to the Norwegian Mountaineering Assosiation (Den Norske Turistforening – DNT), established in 1871. The hostel has been rebuilt and extended a number of times, and today it has 119 beds.

The elevation of 995 mts and special climate give a great variety of plants and trees, approx 700 species. The green lake between the alpine peaks and glaciers in all directions make very beautiful sceneries and great variations.

The location is easily accessable via buses, rail and the local ferry bringing you as close as 600 mts from Gjendebu. Going by car you may park at Gjendesheim, Leirvassbu or Fondsbu. The usual activity of course is all kinds of moutaineering and outdoor living. But we can also offer fishing, botanizing, bathing , beachvolley etcetera.

We are looking forward to seeing you at Gjendebu!
