With its 370 square kilometres, Svartisen is Norway`s second biggest glacier. And concidering that its lowest point is less than 20 metres above sea level, it is also very easily accessible. You can smell the cold, hear the trickle of innumerable streams, watch the ice crystals twinkle in green, blue, turquoise and white. Starting in Bodø, a glacier trip may take place either as a long day trip, or with an overnight stay The walk to the glacier itself takes about an hour. Accompanied by a local guide, glacier hiking is thus easily within the reach of almost anyone.
