The narrow Fjærlandsfjord with its steep and forested mountainsides leads you to the edges of the majestic Jostedal Glacier. Along the fjord there are many hamlets and farms. Most of these farms are deserted, and they now serve as reminders of people's toil and challenges in former times. The water in the fjord is frequently coloured light green because of the glacial melt water. At the head of the fjord you find interesting attractions such as The Norwegian Glacier Museum and The Norwegian Book Town.
Formerly the only way to travel to Fjærland was by boat, but now highway 5 connects the village to Sogndal and Skei/Førde. From the picnic area at Berge in Fjærland there is a commanding view of practically the whole length of the Fjærlandsfjord.
From June 1st. until September 15th. you can travel by boat on the Fjærlandsfjord, and there is no better way of enjoying the beautiful fjordscape. There are few roads along the fjord and most of the small farms and hamlets have been deserted.
From the pier in Mundal it is a short drive by car or bus up to the Supphellebreen and Bøyabreen glaciers - two branches of the main Jostedal Glacier.
