4 day Polar Night Adventure - Longyearbyen in Spitsbergen is a perfect getaway weekend destination for the polar night season. Quiet small town close to North Pole surrounded by arctic silence and northern lights.
DAY 1: After your arrival to Longyearbyen airport, you can catch the airport bus to Basecamp Hotel. Here you can leave your luggage - for your night at the Trappers station, you will only need a minimum of personal items.
We recommend a walk in town. There are many restaurants close that serve lunch. Your guide will meet you at 7pm. We drive to the Trappers station which is located approx. 10 km outside of Longyearbyen. At the Trappers hut we will be served a 2 course dinner. Your guide will also tell stories about the hunting traditions in Svalbard. Accommodation will be our Gamma, a wooden teepee hut. Your guide will be in nearby, and function as your polar bear guard for the night. As will our 90 Alaskan Huskies.
Accommodation at the trappers station.
DAY 2: We start the day with breakfast in the hut. If the snow conditions are good, we harness the dogs for a sledge trip in Bolter valley. Your guide will of course give you instructions. With less snow we`ll go for a hike instead. With the Trappers station located outside of Longyearbyen, means we have less light pollution, and better conditions for spotting northern lights. Svalbard in one of the few places you can spot northern lights at daytime. After the trip, we head back to Longyearbyen, and check in at Trappers hotel for the next nights. We recommend dinner at Kroa restaurant next door.
Accommodation in double room at Basecamp Hotel.
DAY 3: Today we go hiking with snowshoes in the area close to Longyearbyen. Before we start you are given a headlamp and snowshoes. The guide will teach you the principles of snowshoeing, and determines the route depending on weather and local conditions. Along the way, we will enjoy a hot drink and the breathtaking, dark silence. We will have great view of Advent valley.
