Guided tour on bus to Avaldsenes, Skudesneshavn, Åkrasanden og Visnes. The local guide will guide you through the rich history of Karmøy.
Viking history at Avaldsnes: The tour starts with a historic stop at Opplev Avaldsnes. Here you get to hear about the rulers who ruled the Norwegian coast from Avaldsnes. We know some of them from royal sagas, heroic sagas and old poems. Others we know from archeology. At the History Center you also get to see into the magical world that people once thought was real. It will also be possible to walk down to Vikinggarden. Vikinggarden was built on the basis of archaeological finds made in Rogaland. Here you get to see how the Vikings lived and lived. These atmospheric and authentic surroundings give you an immediate feeling of being back in the Viking Age.
Beautiful Skudeneshavn: Furthermore, the trip goes to Skudeneshavn which is a small white small town located in an exciting cultural landscape. Skudeneshavn has been named Norway's summer town.
While the seagulls are screaming and the boats are tough, it is nice to walk between the white picket fences in the old town. Winding small roads and alleys constantly give new impressions between the small, white houses. Our local guide takes you to the Museum in Mælandsgården, which is located in the middle of the beautiful, protected wooden houses in old Skudeneshavn - the town that grew up in the 19th century in connection with the rich herring fishing. At the museum in Mælandsgården, you can get an insight into how the city grew, see how a bourgeois family lived 150 years ago and see old crafts that characterized the cityscape. Fishing, herring salting, trade and shipping are themes that have dominated Skudeneshavn for almost 200 years.
Åkrasanden: Many people get a surprise on their first walk across Åkrasanden. Especially in summer, there is a Mediterranean atmosphere on the beach, where it is elongated, beautiful and smiles sandy white against the sea.
Visnes: Imagine that the copper from the Visnes mines has shaped the very symbol of the United States: the Statue of Liberty! Visne's copperworks were in their time the largest and most modern in Northern Europe. The mine was in operation for two periods between 1865–1972 and 4.2 million tonnes of raw copper, zinc and sulfur were extracted. Visnes copperworks focused on modern technology and was out early with several technical innovations. At Visnes Mining Museum we get a guided tour through the rich history.
