Raak og Draam has its base at a small crofter farm called Søre Krukhaugen right above the church in Heidal.
Inside the old barn you will find a living workshop for old style wooden skis. The skis are based on a model that Jo Gjende used. We also make small ski sledges and old style wooden beds on request.
In the large log house, we arrange lecture evenings and open café days. On request, we welcome groups to the crofter farm for a cup of coffee and something to eat. We can on these occasions make a guided tour inside the houses, and we sit in the warmth of the soapstone fireplace and tell old stories with different themes.
Søre Krukhaugen with Raak og Draam is also a base for historical hikes in the area around lake Gjende. We arrange long hikes from 8-10 hours to hikes from 2-4 hours in light terrain. During these hikes, we are telling the stories about Jo Gjende and the big cattle drives that took place from Leirungsvalley to Christiania in the 19th century. We also try to complete the historical themes with demonstrations of old style equipment and a taste of mountain food.
The word «raak» is an old norwegian word for path or narrow road in our region. The word «draam» is an old norwegian word for dream. The symbolic value of Raak og Draam is to walk the paths and dreams of Jo Gjende.
