HADELAND - A 3-day cycling holiday on quiet gravel roads in beautiful countryside!

Experience the Hadeland Heritage Trail!
A 3-day cycle tour through one of Norway's most beautiful countyside landscapes. The tour mostly goes along quiet country roads that wind up and down and past well-kept farms, cultural sites and flowering roadsides.

The Hadeland Heritage Trail is a self-organised round trip that starts and ends in Harestua. You can choose to arrive by train or car. If you come by train, it is a good idea to reserve a place for your bike in advance. If you are taking the car, it is easy to park your car directly near the 'Friluftshubben', where you can also buy cycling maps and get some good advice.

Suggested accommodation:
• Day 1 - Granavolden Hotell og Gjæstgiveri
• Day 2 - Thorbjørnrud Hotell

Would you like to sleep in a tent? Check out Sløvika camping with a fantastic location by the Randsfjord.

Facts about the route
• Level: Medium (with some demanding sections)
• Distance: 97 km (day 1 - 31 km / day 2 - 41 km / day 3 - 40 km)
• Surface: mixture of gravel roads and asphalt roads.

The quality of the gravel roads varies from hard-packed car roads to mountain roads with rougher and looser surfaces. The route is therefore not well suited for road bikes.
• Day 1 - 50% gravel / 50% asphalt
• Day 2 - 30% gravel / 70% asphalt
• Day 3 - 90% gravel / 10% asphalt

Tour description

DAY 1: Harestua -> Granavollen
Arrival at Harestua. You first cycle uphill in the direction of Lake Mylla. This part of the trip is on a gravel road through some forest. You cycle through Mylla and then past Svea, where there is a lovely swimming area, before reaching a beautiful area with summer farms and small farms.

From here it is only downhill on an asphalt road until you cross the E16 and continue over quiet country roads to the old Lunner church. Here it is worth taking a short break to enjoy the peace and the birdsong before continuing north in the direction of Granavollen.

Granavollen offers many attractions, so be sure to plan your trip so that you have time to visit the Sister Churches, Telthuset, Glasslåven and Granavolden Gjæstgiveri.

NOTE: There are no restaurants along the way, but many places are suitable as a rest stop. Therefore, bring your own food and drinks for this day!

DAY 2: Granavollen -> Jevnaker
After breakfast, the cycle tour continues north in the direction of Røykenvik. On day 2, you cycle from experience to experience. The tour passes Hadeland Folk Museum, Tingelstad Church and Røykenvik and ends in Jevnaker where you can visit Hadeland Glassverk. Both in Brandbu and at Røykenvik there are options for dining and shops. And maybe you see opportunities to cool off in the Randsfjorden?

The tour goes along small and little-trafficked roads, but there are some steep climbs.

DAY 3: Jevnaker -> Harestua
Today you say goodbye to the cultural landscape and end your cycling adventure with a beautiful ride through Nordmarka. This stretch is not that long (30 km) and if you have time, we therefore recommend that you use the morning to visit Hadeland Glassverk (if you didn't have time yesterday) or to cycle 5 km (one way) to Kistefos Museum. Here you can walk in the sculpture park, visit the old 'Træslibberiet' and see The Twist!

The tour back to Harestua goes across the northernmost part of Nordmarka. From Jevnaker the first few kilometers are on asphalt, before the rest of the trip is on gravel roads. NOTE: There are no staffed restaurants along the way, so remember to bring food and drinks along the way.

The trip can be combined with a hike to Nordmarka's highest peak; Sverttjernshøgda (717 m). If you want to do this trip, park your bike at Tversjøstallen and follow the blue-marked trail.
