Hagan - Chr. Skredsvigs kunstnerhjem

HAGAN – THE HOME OF THE ARTIST CHR.SKREDSVIG
Norway's best preserved artist home from the golden age of Norwegian painters

Hagan was the home of the painter and author Christian Skredsvig (1854–1924).  Skredsvig is best known in Norway for paintings such as "The Sallow Flute" and "Idyll", while his animal paintings won him great success in Paris.

Both the house and the interior remain the same as when the artist and his family lived there. The walls are full of his own works of art and those of his artist friends, totalling about 150 originals.

Guided tours
Visitors are given a personal tour of the many rooms and staircases of this exceptional house, which Skredsvig himself designed. The guide will tell the story of the house and of Chr. Skredsvig's life and art.

Gallery and cafe
The old barn at Hagan has been rebuilt and is now a gallery featuring Skredsvig's paintings with new exhibition themes every summer. It also houses the French-style Cafe 1889.

Prints of Skredsvig's art, books etc. are for sale in the old food store building from 1668.

Beautiful location
Hagan is located high in the hills above Eggedal with wonderful views of the valley towards the Solevann lake and the Andersnatten mountain.
Hagan forest and culture trail is a walk around the Åsfossen waterfall in the footsteps of the Swedish artist Ernst Josephson. This is where he painted "The Water Sprite" in 1872.

Friluftsskolen – outdoor painting courses
Harriet Backer and Gerhard Munthe painted some of their major works in Eggedal in the summer of 1888. That same summer, Skredsvig painted his famous "Idyll", also known as "Man walking with cats". Every summer, those who want to learn how to do oil painting like the old masters can take an outdoor course at Friluftsskolen in the grounds of Hagan.
