Helligskogen Lodge
Helligskogen was founded in 1846. And the place contains a mountain lodge (former youthhostel), caravan pitches, residential houses and function rooms. With its unique location at the edge of the forestline at the upper part of Skibotnvalley, the place is an excellent starting point for mountain walks, hunting, fishing and outdoor activities.
With a long history going all the way back to 1846 when Helligskogen Mountain lodge was established by royal decree, then under the Finnish name Pyhaouta (the sacred forest).
Helligskogen was for a long time a traffic hub in the arctic north.
A place where the travelers could get a meal, lodging, long-awaited rest and strength for a new day of travel. People who stop here are reminded that time and the world are about to pass by the Sacred Forest. The place somehow belongs to a time that no longer exists. A time of pedestrians, horses, sleighs and storytellers.
The story of Pyhaouta later Helligskogen Fjellstue can be read here: https://www.soltun.info/helligskogen/ (norwegian site)
