Helligskogen Lodge

  • Nordlysveien 5655, Skibotn
  •  /  km From You

A cozy mountain cabin located in the beautiful Skibotn valley in Storfjord municipality in Troms. Here you live in historical surroundings with a simple and nostalgic standard. A short distance to nature experiences outside the mountain lodge all year round. The Lodge has 27 beds in 10 rooms.

Helligskogen was founded in 1846. And the place contains a mountain lodge (former youthhostel), caravan pitches, residential houses and function rooms. With its unique location at the edge of the forestline at the upper part of Skibotnvalley, the place is an excellent starting point for mountain walks, hunting, fishing and outdoor activities.
With a long history going all the way back to 1846 when Helligskogen Mountain lodge was established by royal decree, then under the Finnish name Pyhaouta (the sacred forest).
Helligskogen was for a long time a traffic hub in the arctic north.
A place where the travelers could get a meal, lodging, long-awaited rest and strength for a new day of travel. People who stop here are reminded that time and the world are about to pass by the Sacred Forest. The place somehow belongs to a time that no longer exists. A time of pedestrians, horses, sleighs and storytellers.
The story of Pyhaouta later Helligskogen Fjellstue can be read here: https://www.soltun.info/helligskogen/ (norwegian site)

The mountain lodge offers a simple, nostalgic standard in all rooms, sanitary rooms and living areas. You share the kitchen, living room, toilet and bathroom with the other guests. Electric heating in the bedroom/common room and wood stove in the living room.

In the kitchen you will find:
Dining table
2 wash basins
Simple kitchen equipment

The living room has seating for 5 on the sofa and 4 at the dining table. In addition to 3 toilets and 2 showers. As a guest, you also have access to a washing machine and tumble dryer.

The lodge does not have a reception and can sometimes be unmanned.
