Hesthammar schoolhouse, built in 1863 is the oldest schoolhouse in Tysvær. It is situated close to the Statoil plant at Kårstø, and is located at the old road from Hesthammar to Årvik. It was the first schoolhouse built in the school district of Falkeid.
When entering the schoolhouse you step into a different time. The school is equipped with long benches, which was common up to 1939. The walls are panelled and unpainted, and a stove is centrally placed. The teacher's desk and high stool are still part of the interior. Electricity has never been installed. The only source of light seems to have been the fire from the opened stove door.
This schoolhouse is part of Karmsund folkemuseum.
