This is a family-friendly hike with a trail that is easy to negotiate.
Distance: 8 km and 4-5 hour return trip
Season: July – October
Level of difficulty: Blue (moderate)
Starting point: Myrkdalen Mountain Resort – Myrkdalen
Map reference: Myrkdalen 1:50 000 (Statens kartverk), Voss 1:50 000 (Ugland IT)
Comments: The road to Vetlebotn is a toll-road.
Follow the marked trail to Finnbunuten (1358 masl) from Myrkdalen Mountain Resort in Myrkdalen, via Helgatun and Vetlebotn. When you reach the mountain farm Vetlebotn, continue along "Kari Traa ski lift" (the ski lift furtherst east).
This is a family-friendly hike with a trail that is easy to negotiate. However, it is relatively long with the journey to the summit from Voss Fjellandsby/Helgatun measuring 900 meters, and 650 meters from Vetlebotn. The hike can be reduced somewhat by driving along the toll-road to Vetlebotn (700 masl) or taking the Summer chair lift to the top of the ski resort (860 masl) and starting the walk from there.
On a clear day you can enjoy magnificent views of glaciers such as Hardangerjøkulen, Jostedalsbreen and Folgefonna. If you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of some reindeer, as the grazing ground in the area surrounding Finnbunuten is vital for the wild reindeer during the summer and autumn months.
After the hike we recommend spending the night at Myrkdalen Hotel.
