Experience Longyearbyen's most popular mountaintop and enjoy the view over the town and the surrounding mountains.
This well-known hiking trip is a local favorite, thanks to its proximity to the center and the fantastic panoramic view from the top.

The images are familiar; a person stands at the edge of the mountain, gaze directed towards Hiorthfjellet and Adventdalen.
Below lies Longyearbyen with its pointed houses and riverbed winding down towards the sea.
The view is outstanding and well worth the trip to the top.

This is the hike for those who want an energizing experience close to town.
We start the hike from Svalbard Hotell The Vault and we take our time on the way up to Platåfjellet.
This activity is done on foot, without the use of motorized vehicles, straight from the hotel door to the top.
Upon arrival, we enjoy a lunch break and hot drinks while admiring the nature around us.

On the way from Svalbard Hotell The Vault, we pass landmarks such as the church, the angle station, and the cable car supports that historically transported coal from the mines around Longyearbyen to Hotellneset. Ample time is set aside to tell stories about the city and the people who have shaped it. You will hear about John Munro Longyear's time in Svalbard, and how Longyearbyen became part of Norway. After crossing the river, we move towards Skjæringa, before following the cable car supports towards the first viewpoint, Varden. Here we take a break before continuing the last hundred meters towards today's highlight.

The hike up Platåfjellet is at times steep and suitable for those in reasonably good shape.
Good hiking boots and a windproof jacket are essential when reaching the top.
It is also recommended to bring a small backpack with water and an extra layer of clothing.

Included:
- Sandwich, biscuit and drink
- Search and rescue insurance
- Guide with necessary safety equipment
