Finnøy
A nice roundtrip hike of 10,2 kilometres. Marked trail in a landscape with rocky shores and pastures stretching over the entire coastline on the west side of the island.
The walk starts at the car park by the public beach at Kvitevik, around three kilometres west of the Finnøy Tunnel. Kvitevik has two bathing beaches. Follow the path down to the beach and onwards across beautiful rocky outcrops and through open, rugged countryside. Along the way, you’ll have views of Boknafjorden. After about one kilometre, you’ll pass bunkers and gun emplacements from the Second World War. The walk continues past Sevheimsvågen through grassy and partly marshy terrain. The area has a wide variety of birdlife and is also a popular bathing spot in the summer.
Around Vignesneset
Vignesneset is a peninsula with a varied landscape of marshland, pasture and smooth, weather-beaten rocky outcrops. The area is particularly well known for its diverse birdlife. On the outer edge of the headland lies Apalvika, which every year serves as the meeting point for an Easter walk on Palm Sunday.
Almost at the very tip of Vignesneset, by Ådnavikklubben, you’ll find a rest area with a magnificent view of Finnøy and Boknafjorden – inland towards the Sjernarøyene islands and further north.
After your break, the walk continues through pasture and woodland. Then follow the farm track and tractor path to the heritage farmstead at Nordre Vignes. From here, the walk follows the tarmac road back to Kvitevik. You can also choose to walk back the same way from Vignesneset.
Please be considerate on the walk
The walk passes through active agricultural and grazing land. Follow the path, close gates behind you and avoid taking shortcuts across cultivated land so as not to trample crops. You may walk across frozen or snow-covered fields and meadows from 15 October to 29 April. Keep a safe distance from grazing animals. On Finnøy, dogs must be kept on a lead all year round and must be under control.

You can also start the walk at Nordre Vignes. The car park is signposted by an old barn inside the village.
Access by car and bike
From Stavanger and Rennesøy, drive through the Finnøy Tunnel. Take the first road on the left after the tunnel and then keep left towards Ladstein. You can also take your bike on the express ferry to Judaberg on the south-eastern side of Finnøy. Feel free to combine the walk with a cycle ride on the island if you fancy a longer trip.
