Hiking trip to Lihesten
Experience one of the most prominent landmarks along the Fjord Coast and Sunnfjord! This landmark and unifying symbol of Hyllestad is a popular hiking destination
Spectacular Lihesten (777 masl) is a famous landmark on the coast and probably one of the most photographed mountains in the region. The mountain has many trail and you can spend days exploring them. Lihesten is also popular for mountain climbing.
About the hike from Lekva:The starting point is at Lekva in beautiful Lifjorden in Hyllestad. Begin the hike by following the forest road about 1.3 km along the hillside. Afterwards, there is a marked trail with red markers to 3 L – stølane and Gygrekjeften. You will walk on sherpa stairways up to the plateau of Lihesten, and from here can choose whether to hike to Risnesnipa or Gygrekjeften. Both trails are marked with red markers. Plan to spend about 3 hours hiking up, whether you choose Risnesnipa or Gygrekjeften.
There are toilets at 3 L – stølane. The hike to the top of Lihesten is physically demanding.
Risnesnipa from HovlandstienIt is also possible to walk up Risnesnipa from Hovlandstien. You can either choose to park at Lekva, or continue along Lifjorden until you reach a small car park on the left, under a tree. From the car park, walk back a little until you see the sign up. The trail is great with varied terrain. Here you will walk through the forest in the first part, before reaching a more open terrain with magnificent views of Lifjorden. The trail can be quite steep in the first part, but once you've reached the ridge of Lihesten, the hike climbs to the top. Here we recommend spending plenty of time up the mountain. Both to enjoy the view, a good packed lunch, and to drink plenty of water.
Practical information:Good hiking boots and hiking clothes are recommended, as well as food and drink. Before setting out on your trip we recommend you read the mountain etiquette rules.
