Kongeveien i Marker

Kongeveien (The kings road) from the center of Ørje to Kjølen Sports Center at the border with Sweden. A nice trip of approx. 13 km - round trip. A good amount of voluntary work has been done on the stretch. And you go both through forest, on gravel roads, and forest roads, with a steady climb upwards.

In Norway, Kongeveien connected parts of the country and people. Kongeveien were of great importance for all communication - for travellers, for the transport of goods and for the spread of news and cultural impulses. Along the roads, transport stations were set up on farms at suitable distances where travelers could get food and overnight accommodation.

Parts of the royal roads are today gentle walking paths and hiking routes in natural terrain.

Text is taken from one of the signs along Kongeveien. Read the whole thing in one of the pictures.
