Himingen is a classic peak in Notodden, easily recognized by its pyramid-like shape. This hike from Myregvarv offers stunning views, a rewarding climb, and a glimpse into local hiking traditions.
Route DescriptionFrom the Myregvarv parking lot, follow the trail west for a short distance before turning north toward the mountain. The first section passes several trail junctions and private paths, so pay attention to the route. The terrain is steep in places, with rocks and roots, but the trail is well-trodden.
Halfway up the slope, you'll pass a small hollow and an area with quartz crystals. Once you reach the ridge, the terrain levels out, offering panoramic views of Gaustatoppen, Lifjell, and Notodden. At the northwestern end of the ridge stands a large cairn with a guestbook maintained by Notodden and Hjartdal Hiking Association.
The hike is normally done as an out-and-back route, but for a longer loop, you can descend the other side toward Himingsjå Mountain Lodge and return to Myregvarv.
