There are many mountains that vie for our attention in the Nordfjord area, but it’s Hornindalsrokken (Rokken) that really stands out.
With her sharp, pointy profile it is almost impossible not to notice this mountain top north of Hornindalssætra. But what does the world look like from her summit? Hornindalsrokken, or "Rokken" as she is affectionately known, is tougher than she first appears to be. From Sætredalen the trail is quite steep, but is surprisingly easy for mountain hikers. And there's only one thing to say about the view: it “rokks”!
From Horndøla Bridge you leave the main road and drive for 1,5 km (toll road) up to Hornindalssætra (summer farm), where you can park. From the summer farm follow the trail heading north until you reach two small lakes (Blåvatnet and Store Luka). Between the two lakes you can find the starting point for the steep trail leading up the mountain side. On top of this hill you can see the summit, but don't take the direct approach. Then you will need climbing equipment. You should walk around the summit and get onto the northeast ridgde. Follow this ridge to the summit. The last part is very steep and somewhat exposed.
