"Huset” is one of Longyearbyen’s most legendary buildings. During the dark season you see it lit up at the top of the valley, the town's beacon for culture and community.
The infamous house was built in 1951 and initially served the purpose of a village hall. The name “Huset” came from the people as it was collectively known as the definitive “House”. There has been serving of fine liquors, beers and wines since it was first permitted in the '50s. Most of the city's institutions, including schools, hospitals and post offices, have been stationed within “Huset”. Today “Huset” is famous for its wine cellar and kitchen. Since the '80s, a wine cellar has been growing and developing to become one of Scandinavia's largest, gaining exquisite recognition around the world. With over 20,000 bottles, it is sure to win the affection of the most accomplished wine lovers.
Huset bistro is a historic local establishment. It has been the community's place of choice for wining and dining since the 50´s,where you can literally feel the atmosphere and culture within the walls.
Huset Bistro offer an À la carte menu which is based on traditional home cooking dishes from the nordic countries.
Huset has one of Northern Europe's largest wine cellar with over 20.000 bottles. Our earlier CEO Hroar Holm started the wine collection on the 80`s and is today operated by our wine sommeliers.
Huset's wine list has since 2006 been awarded "Best of Award of Excellence" from Wine Spectator.
A "Wine Glass" rating, from Wine Spectator has the same statusin the world of wine as Michelin stars has within fine dining.Wine Spectator is awarding one, two or three glasses of wine around the world to distinguish themselves. Huset prides itself with its current "Two Wine Glass" rating.
