Close to nature in an environmentally friendly way
The boat MS Bard has the greenest technology available on the market to day. Svalbard is known for its Arctic silence, and with the silent hybrid-electric catamaran you will experience this in the absolutely best possible way. The boat is emission-free when it runs on electricity, and we are very proud to be able to introduce this type of transport in Arctic waters.
A little piece of Russia
Barentsburg with its 450 inhabitants is Svalbard's second largest settlement. The mining community is located on the beautiful Grønfjord, and is operated and owned by the state-owned Russian mining company Trust Arcticugol. There's a coal-fired power stations, hospital, hotel, school, kindergarten and cultural and sports buildings. Although there is still mining activity in the town, tourism is building up to become the most important industry there. It is fascinating to visit Barentsburg, and it is an experience to combine untouched nature with Russian culture.
The conditions in Svalbard change a lot throughout the whole year, and a trip to Barentsburg during the midnight sun in May will be different from when the polar night approaches in October. Whatever the season, you can expect unique experiences in the beautiful nature of Svalbard.
MS Bard is one of the first sightseeing boats in the world to run full-day electrical power tours, specially designed for its purpose. When the boat sails at speeds over 10 knots on the transport stages to Barentsburg and Pyramiden, a hybrid solution with brand new, fuel-saving technology kicks in. When the boat approaches glaciers, wildlife or settlements, it will run silently on 100% electricity.
