Level 1 is a basic course offering an introduction to ice climbing. The focus is on the basic skills needed for a pleasant day of ice climbing on frozen waterfalls. This course covers movements, ice climbing techniques, ice tactics, belaying, belay devices, anchors and characteristics of the ice.
The aim of this course is to give the participants a solid platform to take climbing to new heights. The instructors will set up top ropes on different waterfall routes graded WI 2-4. The participants will get to climb a lot and will receive continual feedback and tips from the instructors. The focus will be on developing the solid, basic techniques needed to take the next step towards multi-pitch and lead climbing.
NB: Multi-pitch and lead climbing are not covered on this course. Participants wishing to learn about these topics can take Level 2 and/or Level 3.
The course is spread over two days.
